If your organisation's device policy is blocking passkey setup, try these options in order until one resolves it.
Step 1 — Install a third-party password manager
What to do: Consider 1Password, Bitwarden, or NordPass (if your organisation allows new app installs) and check whether it appears as a selectable credential provider. If it appears and you can select it, switch to it as your preferred service. If it doesn't appear either, the restriction covers all providers, not just the default one.
iOS: Settings → Passwords → AutoFill & Passwords — see if it's listed and can be switched on
Android: Settings → Passwords, passkeys & accounts — see if the new app appears as a selectable preferred service
Step 2 — Remove the management profile (personal devices only)
What to do: If your device is no longer tied to an employer's systems — for example, you've changed jobs but the work profile is still on your phone — you can remove it yourself.
iOS: Settings → General → VPN & Device Management
Android: Settings → Passwords, passkeys & accounts → Work profile → Remove work profile
Step 3 — Contact IT
What to do: Ask your organisation's IT administrator to update the device policy, especially if it's your personal phone or you need passkeys enabled for work.
